Updated Lymphedema Statistics

Among the findings from the September 2014 NLN meeting in Washington, D.C. are new definitions of lymphedema.

These include:

  • Lymphedema is a cardiovascular disease that impacts the quality of life and overall health.
  • Lymphedema is a comon complication of all types of cancer treatment and the prevalence has increased steadily from 0.95% of all cancer patients in 2007 to 1.242% in 2013.
  • In the US there are over 121,000 people with cancer related lymphedema.
