During my melanoma surgery they took lymph nodes just “to be safe.” A few months later I started having swelling in my leg swelling near where they took out the nodes. I didn’t pay any attention to this until one day I woke up feeling really rotten -- and my leg was hot and red.

My sister-in-law said maybe I had lymphedema. I thought she was crazy because none of my doctors had said anything about this possibility; however (as always) she insisted and checked your website on "Recognizing a Lymphedema Emergency." She was absolutely right and I was soon on my way to the ER (of course this happened on a weekend).

Short version of a long story: THANKS to Lymph Notes, and to my sister-in-law, I received prompt treatment and avoided having a really bad LE related emergency. I’m now receiving treatment, doing well, and had a great time on my first camping trip of the season.

you are the first person to write about melanoma surgery causing lymphedema. i have it in my rt leg and wear a 30-40 hg stocking
during the day and a certaid contraption at night. I went thru the therapy to learn to move the fluid but I get real tired and don't do enough to get it all out of the groin area. Most of my swelling is around the knee and the inside of my thigh.

I want to know if anyone with this condition has flown and if it caused more problems due to increased pressure as the plane takes off and lands. I would also like to know what techniques others use to move the fluid to other body lymph nodes. Hope you are doing well - and would love to hear from you. Ellie
