My doctor wants me to quit work and I am exploring the possibility of using an electric transport device to assist me. The salesman came by yesterday and although he was informative he kept talking about gel batteries and motor poles and suspension. It was a bit like trying to buy a race car. I am lucky because my insurance will help with the cost....so it seems they all want me to buy computerized stuff I don't need. Does anyone else use either of these devices? Can you tell me your personal feeling on pros and cons? It seems the scooter is a little more cumbersome but might take me more places out of doors and since I am still getting around fairly well short distances I have been leaning in that direction. My doctor says there is no telling how progressive this will be. The salesman says most of his lymphoedema patients find they eventually prefer the wheelchair so they also have indoor mobility for bad days...... any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Lynn

The poll was accidentally "closed" and you could not vote. I believe that problem has been resolved -- and you should be able to vote now by signing in as a member and then clicking on your choices.

Please contact me if you are still having trouble.

If you are considering getting a scooter through Medicare you can learn more about the requirements by reading the Medicare publication 11046. It is available online at
