Or isn't it?

I'm new here. I just had single lymph nodes removed for biopsy from both axillary regions on Tuesday of this week. This is Friday. I had an overnight weight gain of six pounds from Wed-Thursday, and I look like my milk came in after giving birth. Furthermore, my right hand is horribly swollen, and my left somewhat.

I was told single lymph node excision did not place me at risk for lymphedema. Well, what else could this be...?

I'm hoping this is just temporary swelling from surgery, but the fact that it came on so suddenly and profoundly is disconcerting. Now I'm wondering if this is here to stay and will get worse.

Thanks.

Neophyte, who is still awaiting biopsy results, too:(

You are very sharp to pick up on the possibililty of lymphedema! Since you just had the biopsies, you must still be under your physicians care and this is certainly something you want to discuss with him or her.

If it is lymphedema, please seek treatment quickly! The sooner lymphedema is treated, the better your chances of controlling it.

If you need more information you are welcome to contact me by e-mail (ann@lymphnotes.com).

Thanks, Ann.

One of my best friend's is a breast cancer survivor, so I've watched her struggle with this for years. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had a clue.

I went to the surgeon's office this morning, and they drained fluid from the seromas that were blocking the lymphatic drainage. THat's helped a lot. One of them is already reswelling, though, so we'll see how everything looks by tomorrow.

And, yes, he did say it could also be permanent. :(
