laser surgery

I have lymphedema in one of my legs. I am having an ultra sound done tomorrow because the dr. wants to do laser surgery and burn out some of the veins. He thinks he can get some of the swelling down that way. Has anyone heard of this procedure for lymphedema before? Anything I have read says you shouldn't do anything with the extremity with lymphedema so it doesn't get infection since it doesn't heal well.
