Exclamation Wish I seen Lyphedema Emergencies Earlier

I wish I had found you all weeks ago and read the emergency part. Six weeks ago I dropped a piece of firewood on my leg and skinned it (And spent about an hour crying from the sheer pain. ) About an hour later it did the burning itching thing and was leaking like crazy.
In a week I had a ulcer where I had skinned my leg.
To make a long story short, I am now fighting a infected ulcer. It is painful, and ugly. (Try wearing Circ-Aids over one of those! OOOWWEE!!!
I am now on my second bout of antibiotics. At one time I had a red streak going up my leg. I had to talk real fast and sweet to keep my butt oout of the hospital. It still is conditional, but I think it is looking better. No more red streak just a warm red patch now.
Anyway, In the future I will get ahold of my Dr. a lot sooner.

Smile Update on the ulcer

It has now been one year since I posted about the ulcer. I have fought numerous infections (celluitis is not fun!) until finally I was put on a maintenance dose. It made a world of difference. I had a doctor at wound care alternate antibiotics because my body would get used to one and my infection would flare.
Right now it looks like it may finally close. The docs are hoping in two weeks time it will finally seal up for good.
One word of advice. If you don't like your wound care see if there is another in the area. The first one really had me messed up by the time I went and changed to the other one If you think you are not getting good care DO NOT WAIT! Your life or limb could depend on it!!!!!!
Also do not dismiss a little scrape as nothing it is something, clean it immediatly with antiseptic and contact the doctor.
Hope you find this helpful.

Cellulitis

I have had several bouts with cellulitis, and the most successful treatment for me has been Cipro. Every ER visit I have had ended easily when given Cipro in an IV drip. I had another blockheaded ER doc give me something else where I had to be admitted and given antibiotics for a WEEK! Never again.

Ulcer update 3

Well, we got it closed for about three month. It opened up lastweekend again. I get so discouraged sometimes. I want this damn thing gone FOREVER!!!
I was down to one a month visits to wounds care (even though it had closed they kept seeing me to make sure my lymphedema wasn't causing other skin problems.) and now I am back to once a week.

I am so tired of this crap.

Hugs,
LadySafire
