Risk factors for lymphedema include:

  • Cancer treatment including surgery, lymph node removal or biopsy, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.

  • Serious burns (including radiation), injuries, or surgeries that resulted in scarring or skin damage.

  • Being overweight, especially if it limits your movement.

  • Other medical conditions including lipedema, chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), chronic heart failure (CHF), and other circulatory conditions.
